Kokikai Aikido Class Schedule

located at the Josiah Bartlett Elementary School
Taught by Jane Biggio

Wednesdays:
3:30pm - 4:30pm Grades 2-4
This class is a blend of techniques and games. Students begin to develop an appreciation for accuracy in technique. There is also a great deal of focus on learning how to sense another person's energy through physical contact. These children begin to learn how to maintain their one point (center) when blending with another's energy.
4:45pm - 5:45pm Grades 5-8
Significant attention to detail in techniques. These students develop a form that is comparable to that of a dedicated adult student. Their form becomes truly effective. Their ability to control a situation becomes very real. These students develop a sense of humility as well as respect and responsibility for themselves and others.
6:30pm - 8:00pm Continuing Aikido for Adults
Beginner Aikido is a prerequisite for this class. Focus is on learning how to be strong and relaxed at the same time. Using ki rather than muscle strength is very important and expected at this level. Momentum is increased and the student begins to feel the power inherent in proper technique. These students begin to explore how they can incorporate finesse into their technique. The class becomes more aerobic and the level of exercise increases significantly. The student's understanding of Aikido philosophy begins to deepen with continued practice. Regular attendance is expected.

Thursdays:
3:30pm - 4:30pm KG and 1st Grade
These children will learn basic foundation exercises for Aikido, as well as how to roll on the mats. They will learn how to work with each other in a way that is respectful. They will begin to learn how to listen to Aikido directions and how to focus on learning.
6:30pm - 8:00pm Adult Aikido for Beginners
